The Division of Legislative Audit (DLA) offers internship opportunities. What a great way for you to find out more about DLA and get valuable experience! Generally, we are looking for juniors or seniors who are in the process of completing their degrees. We are looking for individuals with strong academic records and willingness to learn and be creative. An internship with DLA will provide you with an exciting and challenging professional opportunity.

Internship Description:

The intern may be involved in a variety of tasks which will provide an introduction to governmental auditing. The specific audit work will vary depending on the audit engagement(s) assigned. The intern generally will work under the supervision of a CPA and, typically, in a team situation. The intern will be responsible for preparing electronic audit work papers that present information related to the audit tests performed and conclusions reached.

What is Legislative Audit:

DLA is the post-audit agency for the State of Alaska. We conduct financial, performance and sunset audits of state agencies and state quasi-corporations, such as the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation. Audits are performed in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and in accordance with the government auditing standards.


Applicants must be:

  • Majoring in Accounting or a related field with at least a Junior status;
  • Have successfully completed Intermediate Accounting; and
  • Possess a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0, or better.

A successful applicant will have:

  • A working knowledge of general accounting principles;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Working knowledge of, and ease with, computer software programs, especially Microsoft WORD and EXCEL.


$4,118 per month (Range 15) plus benefits

Duration of Internship Position:

Expected length of the internship is 13 weeks, but a minimum commitment of 10 week is necessary. Generally the internships will begin in May (start and end dates are flexible).

Travel and Housing:

Relocation to Juneau (i.e. airfare and housing) is the internís responsibility.

Intern applicants should submit a resume, copies of college transcripts and a cover letter that clearly indicate that they are in response to DLA intern recruitment. The cover letter should explain in detail that the applicant meets all minimum qualifications, and should briefly state why the applicant is interested in the internship. Applicants are encouraged to submit letters of recommendation.
